DDA adopts Civic Building Guidelines
With a proposed Performing Arts Center in the mix, the Mt. Crested Butte Downtown Development Authority (DDA) needed to alter its architectural and site standards to accommodate civic buildings, which weren’t a consideration in the previous iteration of the document. A new “civic” section was added to accommodate the PAC as well as a parking structure and any future civic buildings located within the DDA’s boundaries. It addressed things like architecture, lighting, roofs, and building materials. During its September 13 meeting, the DDA accepted the civic section addition as well as some other changes to the general guidelines to make them applicable to civic structures.

“Ranchers and Sportsmen Together for the Hungry”
Jerry Burgess and Marlene Crosby spoke to the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council on September 7 about the non-profit that aims to feed the hungry with excess elk meat that’s harvested this season. They were looking for some financial assistance as well, but for the remainder of 2010, the town’s budget is spoken for. Town manager Joe Fitzpatrick said, “This is an excellent program, and it would be a great place to put some funds, and it’s definitely needed in the valley.” Unfortunately, the town doesn’t have funds available to contribute to the non-profit for 2010.
However, Fitzpatrick said, “I think we’re in a situation where we can look into the cycle for 2011. It’s pretty tough right now to find anything in 2010, unless Bill [Racek] is bringing some permits in I don’t know about.”

Council supports Quiznos Pro Challenge
During its September 7 meeting, the council passed Resolution No. 7 affirming the town’s support for the 2011 Quiznos Pro Challenge Bike Race.
The local organizers are proposing a finish in Mt. Crested Butte among other possible routes, and submitted a request for proposals last Friday. As councilman Gary Keiser said, “Why would anyone be opposed to it?”
