Body recovered from Taylor River Wednesday morning

Western State College Search and Rescue team members along with their counterparts from Crested Butte found the body of a 71-year-old man in the Taylor River Wednesday morning. The man had been reported missing Tuesday afternoon.

While there are few details available, the man’s body was found in a section of the Taylor near the Lodgepole Campground about 11 a.m. Wednesday morning. He had been fishing and did not return home Tuesday.
According to WSC Search and Rescue team leader Chip Lamar, a dog and handler were used to help in the search Tuesday and team members spent four or five hours on the scene. The dog found a scent on the riverbank Tuesday but by then it was too dark for searchers to see anything in the river. The search resumed Wednesday morning and the body eventually was found down river from the scent.
As of press time, officials were unable to release the victim’s name pending notification of the family and the cause of death had not been determined.
