Local man arrested in April shooting dies in Crested Butte

Local autopsy inconclusive

A local man who had been arrested in April for shooting his companion in the leg with a handgun died in his Crested Butte apartment early Saturday, May 28.

Gunnison County coroner Frank Vader says there’s “not a lot of detail” in the death of Travis Hunter, 30, who was found unresponsive by his roommate before being transported to Gunnison Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Vader said an autopsy done locally was inconclusive and that Hunter’s body had been sent out of town for more study. He added that a toxicology report wouldn’t be available for three weeks. “It could be quite a while before we know the cause,” he says.
Vader says the Hunter family is traveling to the area from Tennessee this week.
