Bond also allegedly tied to missing RLC funds

But no action likely

Former Crested Butte-Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce director Richard Bond will go to court next month to answer charges he stole money while acting as treasurer of the local Rotary Club.

It appears Bond may have taken similar action in his role as treasurer of the Red Lady Coalition (RLC), but as of now, no charges have been filed in that situation. Beseker said he saw no indiction money from the Chamber was touched.
“During the investigation, I came across similar suspicious activity with the Red Lady Coalition,” said Gunnison County sheriff Rick Besecker. “It was similar to the activity from the Rotary Club. There appeared to be lateral [banking] transfers. But I didn’t receive a request to formally investigate further.”
RLC president Bill Ronai stated, “We found some monies missing, and have been repaid in full. We have no plans to pursue action against Richard.”
Besecker said that given the fact the Bond case is “a non-violent crime, it is up to [the RLC] to approach the sheriff or the district attorney and they haven’t done that as far as I know.”
Bond is looking at five class-4 felony counts of theft between $1,000 and $20,000 after allegedly taking more than $40,000 from the Rotary Club account in a series of transactions starting in November 2008. The investigation broke out the transactions in six-month segments, with the last allegedly occurring between May 14, 2011 and August 31, 2011.
Bond also faces one count of theft under $500. Bond is set to appear in County Court on Tuesday, January 10.
