Zadra lawsuit against Sheriff dismissed

An abrupt ending

The lawsuit brought by Michelle Zadra, the former Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office captain who was convicted of seven felony counts of perjury before suing the county a month ago for reinstatement and damages, has been dismissed.

A Notice of Dismissal was sent to U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn Friday, December 16 saying simply, “Plaintiff, Michelle Zadra, by and through counsel…dismisses the within action without prejudice.”
Judge Blackburn approved the Notice the same day, ending the former Gunnison County Jail Captain’s claims against former sheriff Rick Murdie, the county sheriff’s office and the county commissioners, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) agent Jack Haynes who conducted the original investigation, and former district attorney Myrl Serra.
Zadra, who was the highest ranking officer at the jail with almost 20 years of experience before she was placed on administrative leave, was charged and convicted after lying to investigators about listening in on the phone calls of inmate Joseph Stromayer in 2009 and teaching jail sergeant Melissa Rogers do the same.
According to her original complaint against the defendants, Zadra had been seeking monetary damages and reinstatement of her position. She claims Haynes, “with the cooperation and urging of Sheriff Murdie and District Attorney Myrl Serra, targeted Captain Zadra, in order to remove the focus from the illegalities and problems being uncovered at the Gunnison County Jail and in the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office, including missing prescriptions at the Gunnison County Jail.”
But Zadra bowed out of the suit before the court had even considered her claims.
