Burglars target two Mt. Crested Butte businesses

Spring exodus is a good time to lock up

Two late-night burglaries at Christy Sports and The Bakery at Mt. Crested Butte and Brown Lab Pub last weekend at the base of Crested Butte Mountain have the Mt. Crested Butte Police Department looking for someone – maybe the only one – with pockets full of cash.

The break-ins took place sometime between the night of Saturday, March 24 and Sunday morning. The Superior Security sticker on the window of the locked front door of Christy Sports didn’t slow down the thief, or thieves, who got away with almost $400. At the Brown Lab Pub and Bakery, the take was less than $100.
But Mt. Crested Butte police chief Hank Smith says investigations have turned up fingerprints that are being processed by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Now it could be a matter of time before a suspect is identified.
Smith said all businesses and residents should be aware that this is the time of year when a lot of people leave the valley after vacation, sometimes with more than memories.
