Ben Barrett heads overseas for select hockey tournament

Earns MVP award

Rocky Mountain Hockey Schools (RMHS) has been coming to Crested Butte and Gunnison to run annual skill clinics for over 10 years. The RMHS Selects take a group of players to Europe every spring to compete against European hockey teams.
This year the RMHS Selects brought a group of 1997 birth-year players to Latvia, a very poor country but one very rich in culture and history, and a great international hockey land.
The RMHS Selects invited Crested Butte local Ben Barrett, the youngest player on the team, born in 1998. Ben competed against players from Moscow, Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Switzerland, and Austria. The level of play was much higher than what Ben is used to playing but he rose to the level of play and competed at the international level.
Ben received one of the greatest honors for each team, selected as an MVP of the 2012 RMHS Selects, chosen by the other coaches and not his own—a great way to represent the small hockey town of Crested Butte.
