Marijuana application
Despite the fact that the town of Mt. Crested Butte prohibited the retail sale of marijuana made legal through the passage of Amendment 64, state law still requires them to designate a staff position as the “Marijuana Application Processing Entity.” The council voted to give the job to the town clerk, currently Jill Lindros.
Town attorney Kathy Fogo said, “There’s no qualifying language anywhere that says if you prohibit in town you don’t have to have an application processing entity. So basically we’re just complying with the amendment.”
Mayor William Buck added, “According to [Colorado Municipal League] we’ve saved more money by prohibiting than we ever would have made in tax revenues.”
Phelps promoted to sergeant
After Nate Stepanik was promoted to become the Mt. Crested Butte police chief earlier this month, officer Brad Phelps was given the rank of sergeant. The town has employed Phelps for the last 17 years.
