CBMR encourages concerned skiers to call for pass details

Options available for affordable skiing

The response to Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s (CBMR) announcement last week about the restructuring of season pass prices has run the gamut—from elation to apprehension.

In deciding to offer an adult season pass for $599 until September 27, CBMR gained the support of many single people between the ages of 18 and 69. The new Peak pass represents a $450 decrease from last year’s Gold pass, which retailed at an early season price $1,049 (if purchased before April 8, 2012, the pass could be purchased for $899).
However, in order to offer the adult pass at a reduced rate, CBMR had to make changes to its other offerings, said Erica Reiter, public relations and communications manager for the resort.
It is these changes that are raising concerns for some community members. Families with children, young adults under 18 and seniors all appear to be bearing the cost of the restructuring with higher pass prices and fewer pass options available. For example, the senior rate went from $289 to $399, and CBMR did away with the popular X-card.
“We encourage anyone who has concerns to contact us directly at skier services,” said Reiter. “There are many options available, and we want people to be able to get out on the mountain.”
