Upcoming elections

Four positions on the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council will be up for election in 2016. Mayor David Clayton and councilmember Gary Keiser are both term-limited, and councilmembers John Sale and Ken Lodovico were appointed to fill vacated seats. Petition circulation to run for council will run from January 5 to January 25, 2016. If there are four petitions for the open seats, no election will be held. If there are more than or fewer than four petitions, an election will be held. The mayor will be appointed by the council.

Vacancy on the DDA board

The Downtown Development Authority has one vacancy to fill the unexpired portion of a term following a vacancy. Interested individuals can submit a letter of interest to the Mt. Crested Butt Town Hall by November 12.

Financial planning

The Mt. Crested Butte Town Council approved an updated version of its Five-Year Plan, which covers 2016 through 2021 and outlines assumptions about projected revenues and expenditures. The plan assumes that property tax revenues will increase 15 percent in 2016, 8 percent in 2018 and 10 percent in 2020. Sales tax revenues are projected to increase 3 percent per year through 2020.

The plan is updated on an annual basis. At an October 20 work session, the Town Council will begin the budget planning process for 2016.

Supporting local ballot questions

The council passed a resolution encouraging registered voters in the Gunnison Valley to support ballot initiative 5A, which would increase sales tax funds raised for air and ground transportation valley-wide.

The council also passed a resolution encouraging registered voters to vote for ballot question 2D, which would allow local municipalities to provide broadband services to the community.
