Three candidates who chose to run as a slate for board positions with the Gunnison County Metropolitan Recreation District handily won the Tuesday election. Ian Billick, Dave Clayton and Derrick Nehrenberg were the top three out of five candidates.

According to the Tuesday count, Billick received the most votes with 316 followed by Clayton with 281 and Nehrenberg with 251. Incumbent Paul Wayne Foreman garnered 123 votes and Carollynn Cherry tallied 103.

According to Met Rec District Manager Lori Patin, the results will not be official until the canvass board meets at a later date. There is a requirement allowing eight days for the receipt of UOCAVA (Uniformed and Absentee Overseas Citizens Voting Act) ballots.

The slate has made it clear  that it wants to broaden the scope of the Met Rec from a focus on over-the-air television to also include funding for broader aspects of valley recreation and more broadly use the district’s infrastructure.

All board member positions being decided are four-year terms. Directors will be sworn in at the May 16 meeting.
