Swenson being considered for interim director

Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority executive director Karl Fulmer has resigned and the board will soon begin a search for a replacement. Board member and Crested Butte town councilman Jim Schmidt reported to his fellow councilmembers Monday night that Fulmer’s resignation would be effective January 1.

Fulmer said he took a job in Sioux Falls, South Dakota as the executive director of the Sioux Falls Housing and Redevelopment Commission and Affordable Housing Solution, the City’s Community Housing Development organization.

Fulmer had been with the GVRHA for more than four years. “Aside from bricks and mortar accomplishments, I am most proud of how communities throughout the valley have come together to support the housing efforts,” he said. “This valley’s communities are truly intertwined. It’s vitally important that all work together to help solve the housing shortage into the future.”

Schmidt said current housing authority board member and outgoing Gunnison County commissioner Paula Swenson is being considered as an interim director. He said the housing authority board is an independent entity of the county.

Fulmer said the board hopes to hire a consulting firm by mid-December to coordinate the search for a permanent director.
