No major changes planned

The Gunnison Watershed School District has placed drafts of three years’ worth of school calendars on its website for community review.
The calendars, which cover the 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20 school years, show start and end dates, school breaks, parent-teacher conferences, teacher work days and early dismissal days for the elementary and secondary schools in both Gunnison and Crested Butte.
Publicly posting the draft calendars is a new approach that the district hopes will help people involved with the schools plan for the upcoming years.
“I proposed that we post three years’ worth of draft calendars on the website so the staff and community would have something to look at if they had questions about upcoming years,” said district superintendent Doug Tredway. “We are brainstorming ideas on how to best serve the students, and that includes calendar conversations.”
The number of student school days remains the same for the next three years, and there are no other major changes noted in the calendars. Tredway emphasized, though, that the calendars are still in draft form and could be changed after negotiations in the spring.
“Any major changes to the calendar would include conversations with the community,” he said.
