Fitzpatrick supportive of move

The Mt. Crested Butte town council appointed Karl Trujillo to a temporary role as town manager during a special meeting on Tuesday night. Trujillo is the fiancé director for the town.

Regular town manager Joe Fitzpatrick is currently taking family medical leave and will be out of the office until further notice.

Town clerk Jill Lindros said the town handbook allows for 12 weeks of medical leave, and she added that Fitzpatrick is supportive of Trujillo being placed in the role.

Mt. Crested Butte mayor Todd Barnes, said not enough can be said about the job Fitzpatrick does for the town, and everyone on council and staff wants to give him the time he needs to feel better and get back to work.

In the meantime, he said, “The council feels that Karl has the time, ability and the knowledge of the staff and the needs of town to perform Joe’s duties in his absence. Karl’s office is just one over, and he already works very well with staff.”
