Nichols to take over this summer

By Aimee Eaton

Dr. Leslie Nichols, the current superintendent of the Hinsdale County School District and principal of the Lake City Community School, will take over as superintendent of the Gunnison Watershed School District this summer. Nichols replaces outgoing superintendent Doug Tredway.

At its March 12 meeting the Gunnison school board voted unanimously and with great joy to approve Nichols’ contract.

Nichols has 20 years of experience working in education, 15 in the classroom and five as an administrator. She began her career as a student teacher at Gunnison High School and has worked in schools throughout Colorado and Arizona. Nichols serves on the boards of the Wee Care Child Care Center and the Lake Fork Community Foundation, and is an active member of the outdoor community.

During the interview process she told the school board, “My vision for the Gunnison Watershed School District is simple: Help every child create as many options in life as possible. Along the way, be sure kids, families, and communities are heard and respected, and remember to have some fun, too.”
