Trial for Robinson set for September 5-7

Former school district psychologist charged with ‘school threat’

By Kristy Acuff

Jury selection for the trial of Patrick Robinson, a former Gunnison RE1J school district psychologist who is charged with “Interference with School-Credible Threat,” is set to begin September 5, with the trial to take place September 6 and September 7. Judge Ashley Burgemeister will preside over the trial, assuming she rules against Robinson’s motion filed in May to dismiss the trial. Burgemeister is still considering the motion to dismiss and has yet to issue a ruling either approving or denying it.

The misdemeanor charge against Robinson stems from his alleged actions in December 2017 that led to a district-wide school lockdown. Robinson is alleged to have made threatening remarks during a Gunnison High School meeting on December 21 that were enough to set into motion the district’s emergency procedures plan. According to Robinson’s defense attorney, Jon Schumacher, more than 150 pages of discovery have been entered by the prosecution as part of this case.
