The Gothic Road construction project detouring cars on a scenic drive of Mt. Crested Butte neighborhoods while en route to Snodgrass or Gothic all summer is nearly complete. Once finalized, Mt. Crested Butte will have an improved Gothic Road, extension of the Recreation Path from Winterset to Prospect Drive and a paved Rasta Lot complete with restrooms. The construction project was originally scheduled for completion by the end of July, but is now estimated to be complete by the end of October.

The town of Mt. Crested Butte contracted United Companies to do the Gothic Road rehabilitation and Rec Path extension. The Gothic Road improvements span from Marcellina Lane to the north end of Mt. Crested Butte at Prospect Drive, including rehabilitation to the road, improvements and additional drainage and flush curbs. The project also includes the installation of eight new bus stop shelters.

The work on the TC-1 lot, also known as the Rasta Lot, includes paving, the addition of restrooms and lighting and the installation of stairs to Treasury Road.

Concrete work to Gothic Road began last week and will continue this week, including pan and curbs, bus stops and the Rec Path. According to interim town manager and community development director Carlos Velado, once the concrete work is complete the road will be paved. Velado estimates the paving will be finished around the first week of October.

As for the Rasta Lot, the final concrete work has been completed and paving began on Tuesday. Velado estimates the project will finalize closer to the end of October. “The public restroom may not be fully completed by then but is intended to be complete by ski season,” said Velado.
