Snodgrass trailhead improvements in the works with Mt. CB

Paved parking spaces on the way

The Town of Mt. Crested Butte has been awarded a $150,000 grant from Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for improvements to the Snodgrass trailhead.

As part of the improvements, the trailhead will be relocated slightly uphill to allow for the town’s right-of-way and accommodate for the potential development on the adjoining North Village property. “It allows us to move forward without being concerned about losing our Snodgrass parking, but also formalize the parking,” said town manager Isa Reeb.

Reeb said the amount of parking spaces will be about 40-45 spaces. “This is essentially going to provide the same amount of parking provided today in terms of count, but will be paved and within the right-of-way,” she said. “I have a running list of how many parking spots are currently utilized. On average it’s about 30-40 at Snodgrass,” but she did note that there were times when cars were illegally parked along the road, totaling closer to 60.

Reeb said the improvements will include an extension of the Rec Path, paving and striping for parking, signage and a bus turnaround. New benches, trash and recycling receptacles will be added and the town is also looking into establishing a more permanent toilet facility. Improvements will begin in June.
