Petitions available for CB council

So far four people showing interest

by Mark Reaman

Four people so far have taken out petitions to run for the Crested Butte town council. There are four seats, three council seats and the mayor’s seat, up for election this fall and petitions must be returned by September 1.

Mayor Ian Billick has picked up a petition to run again for his seat. Gabi Prochaska, who was appointed to replace a departing council member, has also picked up a petition. Councilmember Mallika Magner picked up a petition this week as well.

The current council seat of Chris Haver is up for election this fall but he has yet to pick up a petition. The fourth person who has obtained a petition is former councilmember Kent Cowherd, who ran for mayor last election and was defeated by Billick.

Petitions need 10 valid signatures of Crested Butte voters and must be returned to the town clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on September 1. Aside from the council election, there is no other Crested Butte issue on this November’s ballot.
