November 7 is Election Day

While it won’t exactly be a heavy ballot, it is election season and registered voters in Gunnison County will be able to vote on various state and local issues this fall. Election Day is Tuesday, November 7, but ballots will be sent out in mid-October.

According to Gunnison County Clerk and Recorder Kathy Simillion, ballots will be mailed on October 16. Voters should receive their ballots that week and they will have until Election Day to fill them out and return them to the county clerk’s office.

Ballot drop boxes will open starting on October 20. There are drop boxes in Mt. Crested Butte, Crested Butte, Crested Butte South, on the campus of Western Colorado University and in the Blackstock Building parking lot in Gunnison.

“All drop boxes are under 24 hour recorded surveillance cameras,” Simillion said. “We will also have our Crested Butte Voter and Service Polling Center open prior to the election.” That will open the Friday, November 3 for in-person voting with limited hours and be located at the Queen of All Saints parish hall at Fourth and Sopris.

Simillion said ballots will vary depending on where a voter resides. This ballot will have a couple of state questions, the Gunnison Re1J School District board election and a Mt. Crested Butte question on term limits. In the South Valley, there will also be a Montrose School District election for voters who live near Cimarron, a Delta School District question for voters in Somerset and the City of Gunnison council election along with the state questions.

Simillion said ballots must be received in the Gunnison County clerk’s office, the Voter Service and Polling Center in CB or any ballot drop box by 7 p.m. on November 7 in order to be counted.
