Briefs: Crested Butte

Taxes, new bathrooms and STR issue

—Council approved an amendment to the town code giving the staff more latitude to negotiate with entities that voluntarily disclose an underpayment of town taxes.

—The Big Mine Park bathrooms are open and will be available year-round.

—While overall sales tax was down for Crested Butte, a big part of that was due to the renovation and temporary closing of Clark’s Market.

—Town manager Dara MacDonald said the town has received interest from national companies about coordinating the Crested Butte Infill study.

—Town attorney Karl Hanlon said the town might want to make a formal comment on the potential state legislation addressing the tax rate of short-term rentals. He reported on February 20 that he doubted the measure would make it out of the legislature this year.
