West Elk Hockey Wolverines u19 girls enter post season

League playoffs in Gunnison this weekend

By Than Acuff

It has been a long season for the West Elk Hockey Wolverines u19 girls team starting way back in the second week of November. And after 21 games, 15 of which were on the road, the Wolverines finished with a record of 11-8-2 and head into the Colorado Girls Hockey League (CGHL) playoffs as the third seed. And they’re bringing some firepower to the ice as Nicola Roberts and Riley Aslanian are the third and fourth top scorers in the league with 48 and 43 points respectively.

The good news is, after spending so much time on the road, the league playoffs are in Gunnison and the Wolverines start their post-season run this Saturday, February 24, against Telluride at Jorgensen Ice Arena at 10:30 a.m.

WEHA played Telluride four times throughout the regular season winning one, tying one and dropping two, but every game has been close so a little hometown spirit could help push the Wolverines past Telluride.

If the Wolverines win, they play again at 3 p.m. on Saturday. If they lose, they play at 1:30 p.m. Whether they play at 1:30 or 3 p.m., they will honor their seniors—Roberts, Allie Schwartz and goalie Reilly Seward—at the game.

The league tournament championship game is Sunday, February 25 at 1:30 p.m.
