USPS letters sent

The Mt. Crested Butte town council and Gunnison County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) have written letters to the United States Post Office asking for a response detailing its plans to maintain mail services in the North Valley, similar to a letter recently sent by the town of Crested Butte. “With the USPS publicly signaling its intent to move out of the existing facilities three years ago, and demonstrating no meaningful progress in a replacement plan, we are seeing growing anxiety about how the USPS will maintain critical services for our community,” the Mt. CB letter reads. “We request an immediate response detailing USPS plans to provide mail services for Northern Gunnison County, including the Town of Mt. Crested Butte, after February 2026.”
“The [BOCC] is deeply concerned about the lack of proactive planning being done by the [USPS] to continue a physical presence in the town of Crested Butte, Colorado after their current lease expires in February 2026,” echoed the BOCC letter. “If planning is underway and progress has been made, please immediately respond to share the details so that we can help assuage the growing fears and frustration within our communities.”
