Mt. CB and Gunnison professional fireworks displays still permitted
Stage 1 fire restrictions went into effect July 3 for all of Gunnison County. Professionally managed fireworks for the July 3 Town of Mt. Crested Butte and the July 4 City of Gunnison fireworks displays are permitted, but personal use is strictly prohibited. The restrictions align with local orders and guidelines to protect the public’s safety during high fire danger.
Under Stage 1 fire restrictions, the following acts are prohibited:
•Fireworks: all personal use is prohibited. Note: Mt. CB’s 3rd of July and Gunnison’s 4th of July professional fireworks displays will be allowed unless further restricted by County resolution. Updates will be posted at www.GunnisonCounty.org/fire.
•Smoking: Smoking (cigarettes, cigars, etc.) is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area of at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all combustible material.
•Explosive targets: Explosive targets are prohibited. There are no exceptions.
•Welding and acetylene torches: Welding or operating acetylene torches with open flame, EXCEPT in cleared areas of at least 10 feet in diameter and when the operator is in possession of a chemical-pressurized fire extinguisher with a minimum rating of 2A.
•Combustion engines: Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark-arresting device that is in effective working order and has been properly installed and maintained.
•Agricultural burning: Agricultural burning and the burning of trash or debris are prohibited.
