Knit a Bit at Lunch: Thursday, January 19, 12 to 1 p.m., $10 for drop-in. Instructor: Laura Cooper Elm
Join in on the weekly knitting group’s current project, bring your current project or a pattern you’re aspiring to, and get masterful guidance from 30-year knit master Laura Cooper Elm. All levels welcome. Classes continue every Thursday through February 9.
Cocktails and Clay: Saturday, January 21, 6 to 8 p.m., $45. Instructor: Laura Cooper Elm
Create with clay, learning the techniques of molding a functional, hand-built ceramic art piece from master potter Laura Cooper Elm. Cocktails, professional instruction, and supplies included. Laura is a master potter and painter with over 25 years of artistic and teaching experience. The myriad interconnections found in her work encompass a symbolic language where color, style and balance are combined with precise attention to detail. No experience necessary.

Nordic Photography Adventures: Sunday, January 22, $55. Instructors: Xavi Fané and Raynor Czerwinski
Learn the basics and not so basics of winter photography on the Nordic Center trails. Workshops focus on camera settings and manipulation, composition, choosing the right spot, and winter photography tips. For those who possess a minimum knowledge of photography and have a basic use of their camera. Xavi Fane will teach “Let the Right Light In,” a sunset photography workshop for cross-country skiers from 3 to 6 p.m. Raynor Czerwinski will teach “Capturing the Stars,” a nighttime photography workshop for snowshoers from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Crested Butte Dance Collective
African Dance Classes: Monday, January 23, 6 to 7:30 p.m., $10 per class. Instructor: Jen Robinson
High-energy dance classes to live drumming explore traditional African movements and rhythms from Guinea to Zimbabwe. Instructor Jen Robinson has studied with master Guinea teachers such as Fara Tolno, Youssouf Koumbassa, Moustapha Bangoura, and Zimbabwe master Rujeko Dumbutshena. Live drumming on djembe, dunun, sangban and kenkeni by Shane Whitener, Mike Behrendt, Chip Wiegand, and Geoff Oros. All levels and drop-ins welcome. Classes continue every Monday through March 26.

Ecstatic Dance: Monday, January 23, 8 to 10 p.m., $5 to $10 sliding scale. Instructor: K.T. Folz
Come explore your own authentic movement, let loose, and have fun dancing. Move to the multi-genre beats of local musicians and DJs as we journey together through improvisational dance and music. With over a decade of teaching experience K.T. is also a co-founder of the Crested Butte Dance Collective.

Don Redman Artist Reception: Friday, January 20, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., free
Santa Fe sculptor Don Redman specializes in kinetic and intuitive pieces in steel, wood, canvas and paper focusing on the uninhibited expression of his art. The show runs from Friday, January 20 to February 21.

The Emmitt-Nershi Band: Thursday, January 6, 8 p.m., $25
Legendary lynchpins Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon and Bill Nershi of the String Cheese Incident come together in a jamming bluegrass band based in tradition-rooted experimentation. Songs are intelligently conceived, meticulously executed and lifted with inspired lyrics and adventurous instrumentals.

Nicholas Andre Dance: Wednesday, February 1, 8 p.m., $30
Pulsing with original choreography, showcasing dancers’ physicality and athleticism, these works are conceptual, emotional and passionate. The company is known for clean lines, technical prowess, intense energy and unpredictable phrasing.

Crested Butte Dance Collective
Tango Workshop: Saturday, January 28, 5 to 6:30 p.m., $15 / $10 in advance for teens; 7 to 9 p.m., $20 / $15 in advance for adults
Explore Argentine Milonguero style tango, the original form of tango danced in the salons in Buenos Aires. Passionate instructors Dvora Kanegis and Steve Keefer have studied in Buenos Aires with the masters and taught Argentine Tango for 16 years. All levels, individuals and couples welcome.

Beginning Hoopdance Workshop: Sunday, January 29, 4 to 6 p.m., $20 / $15 in advance
Learn the core and off-body techniques, tricks and freeflow of hooping. Hula hoops of various sizes and weights are provided for classroom use. All levels welcome. Pump Room Dance Studio, 306 Maroon Avenue, Crested Butte.

Double Feature: Journey of a Red Fridge and Pedal to the Midnight Sun: Tuesday, February 7, 8 p.m., $10
Journey of a Red Fridge: A young porter’s dreams in the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal and a glimpse into child labor. Winner of 22 awards including Best Mountain Culture Film and Best Documentary. Pedal to the Midnight Sun: 1,300 miles of glacier-carved vistas, herds of caribou, wildlife, wild people and an Alaskan-sized heap of oddities and hilarity.

Valentine’s Calligraphy and Collage: Thursday, February 2, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., $20. Instructor: Laura Cooper Elm
Learn calligraphy and collage techniques to create beautiful hand-made cards for loved ones on Valentine’s Day from professional artist Laura Cooper Elm.
 
Figure Drawing: Tuesdays February 7 to March 27 (8 weeks), 6 to 8:30 p.m., $175. Instructor: David Wilcove
Live models in extended poses serve as the foundation for this figure drawing class with short lecture. Instructor David Wilcove has a MFA from the New York Academy of Art and focuses on 17th century techniques of rendering the human form in pictorial space.
