End regular season at home this Saturday
The Crested Butte Lady Titans won two of their last three league games this past week to set them up for a successful close to the regular season.
It all started on Thursday, February 14 when they came from behind in the fourth quarter to upset Custer County 43-41.
Custer County came into mighty Mt. Olympus tied for third place in the league with just two losses while Crested Butte was winless in four previous league match ups.
The Lady Titans jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first quarter before Custer County adjusted and came charging back.
Custer County rallied to outscore the Lady Titans 13-7 in the second quarter taking a slim one-point lead into halftime.
All season long the Lady Titans have struggled in the third quarter and this game was no different as Custer County proceeded to build a 35-27 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Crested Butte took back control of the game to outscore Custer County 16-6 in the final eight minutes to edge out the 43-41 win.
Senior Elisabet Desmarais put up career numbers scoring 14 points and pulling down 14 rebounds to lead the Lady Titans. Senior Maddie Stichter ran the floor for Crested Butte directing the offense while scoring 10 points and grabbing four rebounds and juniors Suzanna Dumas and Ali McGuire added eight and six points respectively.
The Lady Titans carried the momentum off the big win to hand Antonito a 69-35 crushing the following day at home.
The two-game winning streak came to a screeching halt on Saturday though as they hit the road to face Sangre de Cristo. Sangre de Cristo is undefeated in league play and ranked eighth in the state. They proved their ilk Saturday against the Lady Titans handing Crested Butte a 65-38 loss.
The Lady Titans hit the road again on Thursday, February 21 to face Sanford and will close the regular season back in mighty Mt. Olympus when they host Del Norte on Saturday, February 23.
