Gunnison mountain bike race series opens at Hartman Rocks

Growler Series under way

Last Thursday at 5:30 p.m., as driving snow and sleet continued to haunt parts of the Gunnison Country, the famous “blue hole” over Hartman Rocks opened up just in time for the first race of Spring Growler Series mountain bike event on the killer single track trail network south of Gunnison.

The course took participants on a fast and scenic loop utilizing local favorite trails, including Rocky Ridge, Lower Luge, Josies, and Dirty Sock.
A total of 44 individuals, including seven kids who raced on a special kid-friendly course, braved the threatening weather and showed up for the friendly competition. They were rewarded with sunny skies and all the Pie Zans pizza and beer or soda they could consume after the event.
The next Growler Series mountain bike race is tonight, Thursday June 29. Registration opens and 4:30 p.m. and the event starts at 5:45 p.m. Kids race for free and the cost for adults to participate is $15. Entry includes free beer from Oskar Blues Brewery or soda and 50 percent off dinner at Pie Zans after the event. For more information please call 641-1804.
