Bond gets hearing date

Five class 4 felonies

A hearing date for former Crested Butte Rotary Club treasurer Richard Bond has been set for Tuesday, January 10 at 9 a.m. in the courtroom of County Court Judge Ben Eden. Bond will be officially advised of his rights at that time.

The district attorney’s office formally filed charges against Bond on December 5 in connection with his role as treasurer of several local non-profit organizations, including the Rotary Club and Red Lady Coalition. He is facing five class four felony charges and one class two misdemeanor charge.
Bond has been under investigation since the summer, when “banking irregularities” were discovered with the Rotary Club account. An investigation by the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office led to the charges. Bond is looking at five felony counts of theft between $1,000 and $20,000 after allegedly taking more than $40,000 from the Rotary account in a series of transactions. He is also charged with one count of theft under $500. Class four felonies could result in one to 12 years of prison time for each conviction.
As of Tuesday, December 13, Bond had not been served the summons, so the court would not release details of the charges.
