Lady Titans see strength in their numbers

“The potential is definitely there”

Marymike Haley is entering her 11th year of coaching the girls basketball team and has two assistant coaches this year to help out. After working as a volunteer off and on over the past several seasons, Lis Collins is stepping into a more formal assistant coach role.
“It’s awesome to have her on a more consistent basis,” says Haley.

Barbara Winter joins the coaching staff this season for the first time locally and Haley sees her as another coach with a wealth of knowledge.
“She’s got a lot of experience to bring to the table,” says Haley.
The help of two assistants could not have come at a more crucial time as an unprecedented number of girls showed up to play this season.
“I have 22 girls out this year—it’s amazing,” says Haley.
Last season was a work in progress as Haley pushed her team through the basics of the game before she was able to introduce new concepts on both offense and defense to the players.
The 2011-2012 season came to a climax when the Lady Titans upset Sangre de Cristo in the final week of the regular season. Sangre was tied for first pace in the league at that point and the Lady Titans put an entire season of work together for four brilliant quarters of basketball.
“That game was incredible and it showed their potential is definitely there,” says Haley.
Haley has almost everyone from last year’s team returning this year and hopes to seize on that potential displayed at the end of last season.
