Three Western State wrestlers earn RMAC all-academic honors

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference named three Western State Colorado University wrestlers to all-academic teams on Monday. Corbin Bennetts (R-Fr., Buena Vista, Colo.) and Tyler Adams (R-Fr., Rancho Santa Margra, Calif.) were named to the first team all-academic list, while Austin Harris (R-Fr., Windsor, Colo.) was a second team selection.


Bennetts has a 3.97 GPA as a biology major and ended the 2012-13 season with a 12-10 record, wrestling at 141 and 149 pound weight classes. Bennetts finished the season fifth at the Region IV/RMAC Championships at 141 pounds. He was also named a second-team All-Academic selection by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).


Adams has a 3.81 GPA as a business administration major and finished the 2012-13 season with a 12-11 record, wrestling at three different weight classes (133, 141 and 149 pounds). Adams recorded three victories by pin during the season, all coming at 133 pounds.


Harris holds a 3.33 GPA as a business administration major and finished last season with a 9-17 record at 157 and 165 pounds. Both Harris and Adams were All-Academic honorable mention selections by the NWCA.

 As a team, the Mountaineers finished with the second highest grade point average among all Division II institutions with wrestling.
