Blades Girls U19 hockey opens season this weekend in Gunnison

Strong returning crew

The Gunnison Girls U19 Blades hockey team begins Mountain States Girls Hockey League (MSGHL) season play this Saturday, December 7 at Jorgenson Ice Rink in Gunnison vs. the Aspen Leafs. Game time is scheduled at 8 p.m. on Saturday and the second game will be Sunday, December 8 at 11 a.m.
Blades head coach Tony Lambert has a strong team returning this year. Assistant coach Katie Brawner (former St. Cloud State skater) has worked the girls hard during pre-season. Joining the coaching staff is Tim Seifert and GJ Santelli.
The girls U19 Blades roster includes Gunnison skaters Elizabeth Stepanek, Ashley Crittedon, Denise Alarcon, Sydney Archuleta, Marisa Danos, Shanna Martinez, Emma Burt, Maddie Smith and Crested Butte skaters Lindsay Johnson, Ryan Carroll, Bradley Santelli, Madison Lambert, Ali McGuire, Leila Nichols, Kendl Santelli, Kaitlyn Seifert and Hailey Pike.
The Aspen Leaf squad has a very strong team. They opened up their season by capturing the Aspen Fall Faceoff (FFO) and then thumped Colorado Select in their two opening league games.
“Aspen is well coached by Doug Coombes and Chris Tyler and have great goaltending in Maddie Grant and Amber Wright. They also have great shooters in Anita Dimento, Jessie Tyler, Caroline Godfrey and Jennifer Coombe,” says coach Lambert.
The Blades’ roster is loaded with experience this year and could make another run at a league title.
“All our girls have ten years of hockey experience at least and it is fun to coach a group of skaters with this much talent,” adds Santelli.
Look for high tempo skating from the Blades this year and come support the girls this Saturday and Sunday in Gunnison.
