Mt. CB appoints John Sale to council

Unanimous vote welcomes him aboard

The Mt. Crested Butte town council unanimously appointed John Sale to the open council seat at its Oct. 21 meeting.

Sale has been a Mt. CB resident for nine years, and works for the Crested Butte Mountain Resort as the Director of Planning and Sustainability. He is also actively involved in the community, serving as board chairman on the Mt. Crested Butte Water and Sanitation District; the president of the Prospect Design Review Board and Homestead HOA Board; and a board member for the Office of Resource Efficiency. He also acts as the CBMR representative on the Gunnison Airport Master Plan Committee and the Gunnison County Community Builders Group.
“I’m excited about the possibility of joining the council,” said Sale. “I’m already involved with many organizations around the county, and have worked with the council previously.”
The council seat was unexpectedly vacated by Tom Steuer due to personal reasons. The council’s charter allowed for the vacancy to be filled by appointment, however, if the council had failed to make an appointment, or if no on had been interested in the job, a general election would have occurred.
Sale was the only person to express interest in the position, but the council appeared to see him as a good fit, with several members welcoming him during the vote. Sale’s term will end April 2016.
