The town of Mt. Crested Butte is continuing to work on a settlement agreement with Homestead developer Lance Windel of Homestead Housing, LLC, and the hope is that an agreement will be finalized before the end of the year.

The 22-unit Homestead affordable housing development on the north side of town has been on hold for more than a year since Windel went into default of his contracts with each unit owner. Earlier this month, the town held a mediation meeting with Windel and has since been working on a settlement agreement.

On Tuesday, the Mt. Crested Butte town council held an executive session with special legal counsel Joe Rivera to review a draft of a possible agreement.

According to mayor Nicholas Kempin, the town and Windel have been going back and forth on the smaller, fine points of the settlement agreement and they plan to review it again on December 20 for final approval and execution. “We hope to have it finalized on December 20,” he said.
