Butte Bouldering Bonanza set to take place this August in Crested Butte

Skyland Boulders pump

The Butte Bouldering Bonanza is back. On Saturday, August 29 the only outdoor bouldering competition on the Western Slope will return to the Skyland Boulders in Crested Butte.

While the event has spent the last couple of years on hiatus, this year it will return, courtesy of the Peaceful Warriors youth climbing team and Western State College. With its resurrection the event will regain its main purpose of getting local climbers together to celebrate climbing and the community.
A new twist this year will be that the event is held in conjunction with WSC’s Week of Welcome celebration. This will be a great chance for the newest members of the climbing community to meet those who call themselves locals.
Things will kick off with registration at 8 a.m. at the Four-way Stop in Crested Butte, and climbing will start at 9 a.m. Organizers are open to creative ideas for the event and the post-climb celebration, so feel free to contact them for more information at lmehall@western.edu or call (970) 943-7053.
Lastly, as a heads-up to all climbers, locals and visitors alike, parking is not allowed at the Club at Crested Butte to access the Skyland Boulders. Recently their parking has been filled to the max and they request that climbers do not park there. Thanks for the consideration to park elsewhere, which is essential to maintaining a good relationship between the Club at Crested Butte and the climbing community.
