Takes seventh in marathon, first overall
A day after running more than 13 miles up Pikes Peak, Tim Parr placed seventh overall in the Pikes Peak Marathon finishing with a time of 4 hours, 13 minutes and 27 seconds. Parr was the first to finish among those who competed in both the Marathon and Ascent last weekend.
Parr, a 2005 Western State College graduate, competed in his first Pikes Peak Marathon since 1999 and finished fourth among Americans. Parr placed 37th in last week’s Pikes Peak Ascent and was one of 30 athletes to run in both events this weekend.
The marathon was one of 14 international races, and one of five major races, that make up the 2010 Skyrunner World Series. The course followed part of the same run that made up yesterday’s Pikes Peak Ascent.
Parr helped lead the Mountaineers to three national cross-country championships and was a five-time All-American between cross-country and track and field. He finished number 25 at the U.S. National Mountain Running Championships in June and is a two-time member of the United States Mountain Running Team.
