Panther Girls back in action this weekend

The Crested Butte’s West Elk Panther U14 Girls hockey team will take to the ice in Gunnison this weekend for a series with the Durango Steamers and Colorado Select squads.
The U14 girls start the brunt of their MSGHL season the next couple of weeks. So far they have split four games with league-leading Arvada and Aspen Leafs teams.
This Friday, January 28, the U14 girls take on Durango at 6:45 p.m. inside at Gunnison’s Jorgensen ice arena. On Saturday, January 29 at 5:30 p.m. outside, the Panthers will skate against Colorado Select. Then on Sunday, January 30 the girls play Durango at 11 a.m. inside, and 1 p.m. vs. Colorado Select outside.
The West Elk U16 team has skated this season into first place in league play. After 12 games the U16 team, coached by Tony Lambert and Fred Stewart, sit on top of the U16 division with an impressive 9-1-2 record.
The Panthers have amassed 92 goals with only six goals scored against. Individual leaders in points are Jessie D’Aquila with 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 points and Ali McGuire with 10 goals and 14 helpers for 24 points. For goalie action, Panther ‘s Monika Olesen has a .75 save percentage along with four shutouts.
The next games for the U16 squad are a four-game series vs. Colorado Select February 12-13 in Gunnison. MSGHL playoffs are scheduled for February 25-27 in Denver at the Edge Ice Arena.
