Briefs Crested Butte

Medical Marijuana adjustments coming
Medical Marijuana and how it fits in Crested Butte will be heading back to the town council. Town Attorney John Belkin is preparing an ordinance that ties in new state regulations with the local ordinance. He is also asking the council to look over and ponder what he considers five major changes to the local rules. They concern issues like the number of operations to be permitted, whether to allow grow operations in the town and who does the actual permitting. The council will discuss the issues next month.

Trash talk
The council was asked to make a decision on which company to have town manager Susan Parker negotiate with concerning trash and recycling services in town. Many of the council seemed blindsided by the timing and wanted a few more questions answered. The council put off the decision until the next meeting in October. It is between Intermountain Waste Recycling, a Roaring Fork Valley company that is partnering with Gothic Mountain Waste Solutions, and Waste Management.

Signs, signs, signs
The council will look at possibly expanding off-site signage in town. The idea that businesses located near Elk Avenue but not on the town’s main business thoroughfare could use some directional assistance has been around a while. And some of those businesses are again asking for help with some Elk Avenue exposure. The council has some suggestions from the staff to consider and they will look into the issue more in the next month before taking any action.

Lupine drying out with town’s help
Parks and Recreation department director Jake Jones said the town installed a new drainage fix at the Saddle Ridge entrance of the Lupine Trail. He said it should make the area dry but the real test will come next spring. He also said ‘No Parking’ signs were placed in the subdivision for the Lupine Trail.
