Soccer game, volleyball match, cross-country race and a parade
By Than Acuff
It’s on, high school sports fans. The Crested Butte Community School’s Homecoming is this Friday and Saturday, September 29–30, and they’re calling on the community to come out and support Titans sports.
It all starts on Friday morning with a balloon arch at the entrance to school where high school student athletes will be out greeting all of the students at 8 a.m. Then, the school invites the community to join them for a parade from the school to Rainbow Field at 3:40 p.m. for the Titans soccer game at 4 p.m. against Vail Mountain. There will be a BBQ and Titans gear for sale at the field. Once that game ends, head back to the school as the volleyball team will face league opponent Del Norte at 5:30 p.m. in mighty Mt. Olympus. It will be an evenly matched game so hometown support could help push the volleyball team to a win and fans are encouraged to wear Titan white for the game.
The Homecoming sports schedule continues Saturday, September 30 as the Titans cross-country team lines up in downtown Crested Butte at Third and Elk to defend their hometown course against as many as 300 other high school cross-country runners from around the state. The course starts in town and heads out Peanut Lake Road before turning around and coming back to town finishing at Third and Elk. The girls race starts at 8:30 a.m. with the boys taking off at 9:20 a.m.
Volleyball will be back in action that afternoon as they host the South Park Burros at 2 p.m. complete with a bake sale, and the weekend closes out with the Homecoming dance Saturday night.
Paint your face, or don’t, and come out to support your Titans high school student athletes.
