Stabbing incident sends police to Riverbend, GVH

Investigation ongoing

Mt. Crested Butte police officers responded to Gunnison Valley Hospital (GVH) on March 8 in response to a reported stabbing victim. A 50-year-old Almont man was treated for multiple stab wounds.

According to a press release from the Mt. Crested Butte Police Department, “It is not believed that the man’s wounds are life threatening.” The stabbing occurred at a residence in the Riverbend subdivision, apparently as a result of attempted sexual assault.
The case is under investigation, but according to public information officer Marjorie Trautman, police believe the man had recently moved to Riverbend from Almont. He did not call 911 for an ambulance immediately following the incident.
“He was driven to GVH by another person and it was this person who called 911,” Trautman said. “Once the 911 page was aired, officers responded to Riverbend and to the hospital to begin their investigation.”
A search warrant of the residence where the crime was believed to have taken place was conducted on Sunday, March 8.
