Planning commission reappointments

The Mt. Crested Butte town council reappointed Lisa Lenander, Sara Morgan and Dusty Demerson to the planning commission during the March 21 meeting. “Thank you all for your service and continued service,” said mayor Nicholas Kempin.

STR violations

Two short-term rental owners were caught renting and advertising without a license in January. According to town clerk Tiffany O’Connell, one owner owns one property, and the second owner owns two properties in Mt. Crested Butte. Neither renewed their STR licenses by December 2, 2022. Their first court appearance is April 5.

Typically with STR advertising violations, the town puts a strike on the owner’s STR license. “For both of these cases, neither are licensed and there’s no real code provision for someone currently not holding a license, so there’s a bit of a gray area regarding the licensure status going forward,” said town manager Carlos Velado.

The council advised town staff to look into the conditions and eligibility requirements for STR licenses, and see if they can take violations of the law by prospective licensees into account.
