Mile marker 14 a pain point for accidents on Highway 135

Two-vehicle crash confirmed but no known injuries

By Kendra Walker

On Tuesday, January 6, a two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 135 at the same section of road that took the life of 38-year-old Crested Butte local Heather Cooper in a tragic accident back in November.

According to trooper Gabriel Moltrer with Colorado State Patrol, a call came in at 9:53 a.m. on Tuesday of a two-vehicle crash involving a Kia and a Toyota at mile marker 14 on Highway 135. He said the report did not show any mention of injuries or transports, but the scene is still under investigation. The southbound lane was closed and opened back up at 10:19 a.m. No other information was disclosed at this time.

Mile marker 14 near Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery is the same location of the fatal November 5, 2025 accident involving Cooper, when a GMC Sierra driven by Dylan Blessing-Garcia was allegedly passing a car in a no passing zone while heading north and hit Cooper’s Ford Escape heading southbound.
