Tim Watkins found near Palmer Lake trails

A former Crested Butte resident appears to have been murdered while on a bike ride near Palmer Lake. The body of 61-year-old Tim Watkins was found last weekend. He went missing on September 14.

According to news reports, a killer remains at large as the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirms a homicide investigation is under way in the Mount Herman Road area. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed Watkins was shot.

A report by KKTV states that the trails around Mount Herman Road are popular with bikers and hikers alike, and it’s not uncommon to see families with small kids or walking their dogs. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to avoid those trails for now until they know who the killer is. There is no information on the suspect as of Tuesday morning.
