Miller has road trips on his mind

The Crested Butte Fire Protection District board of directors has hired a new district manager. Sean Caffrey will replace long-time manager Mike Miller, who is retiring.
Caffrey, from Denver, will step into the manager job, which will remain basically the same as it was structured under Miller. Caffrey’s experience is on the EMS side of things, with 12 years’ experience as the ambulance director and assistant director/operations manager for Summit County Ambulance.
He also has four years’ experience as the EMS systems development coordinator for the Colorado Department of Health and Environment and five years in his current role managing the statewide EMS and children’s program for the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Caffrey also spent 11 years in Keystone as a volunteer firefighter, engineer, fire officer and pension board member for the Snake River FPD (now part of Dillon Fire Rescue). He has an MBA from the University of Denver and has a strong background in accounting and finance management.
Board chairman Paul Hird is excited about the choice but sad to see Miller leave. “The selection process went well and we are excited to work with Sean moving forward when he comes on board July 1,” he said. “Sean comes to us with a very strong background in both EMS and fire operations and management, as well as accounting and finance. We feel Sean will be a strong asset to both the Fire District and our community.
“Mike Miller has been a very dedicated district manager and wore many hats representing the Crested Butte Fire Protection District over the years,” Hird continued. “His knowledge and talents regarding all aspects of this organization made things a lot easier for us at the board level. Mike will be sorely missed, but we wish him well in his retirement, as he will have the opportunity to travel more and put endless miles on his road bike. We hope he’ll occasionally stop by to visit.”
Miller plans to stay in Crested Butte in his immediate retirement, with the plan to take some good road trips.
Caffrey will officially begin his new job on July 1.
