Fall is in full swing and with winter just around the corner, the community can look forward to a wide variety of fun and festive events in the town of Mt. Crested Butte this upcoming winter season. During their September 17 meeting, the Mt. Crested Butte town council awarded grant funding to 13 local nonprofits and businesses for their winter events and marketing initiatives.
Twice a year, the town of Mt. Crested Butte grants marketing funding from its admissions tax. The town received 13 applications for this winter cycle, making it one of the most competitive yet, said marketing communications officer Marisa Maudsley. Staff reviewed applications and held a work session with the town council earlier this fall to go over the funding requests and ask questions of the applicants.
The council awarded a total of $290,400 and each applicant received all or part of their funding request. The Mt. CB winter events kick off early this year with a party taking place this week at José for Matchstick Productions. Grant awardees include the following:
A Bar Above once again plans to host live music this winter, and the town granted $23,400 to be used toward this winter marketing initiative.
The Adaptive Sports Center was awarded $20,000 for marketing its winter programming.
Blister will hold its annual Blister Summit on February 23-27, 2025 at the Elevation hotel, and the town is providing $48,640 toward marketing the event.
The Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce is holding a Chamber Business Awards event at a to-be-determined base area location in January. The town granted the Chamber $6,962.
The town awarded the Coffee Lab $5,000 to be used for marketing the business from November to April.
Crested Butte Museum is hosting a Mt. Crested Butte Pub Crawl to various base area establishments on January 19, and the council agreed to provide $2,000 toward marketing the event.
Crested Butte Nordic will utilize $16,800 in grant funds to market its Winter Grand Traverse race on March 28-30.
Firebird Theatre will hold a production of A Christmas Carol on December 15-23 in the Grand Ballroom at the Lodge at Mountaineer Square. The town awarded Firebird Theatre $25,648.
Gunnison Tough will utilize $63,250 from the town for its songwriter shuffle winter concert series held in February and March. Gunnison Tough has confirmed that the Wood Box Heroes will perform in February.
José at the Elevation Hotel was awarded several grants for various winter initiatives, including $18,350 for a Matchstick Productions World Premiere Kickoff Party on Friday, October 4 to celebrate its ski film tour of Calm Beneath Castles. The town also awarded $26,000 for live music at José and the billy barr and $28,350 for a March Meltdown party on March 29.
The council granted Tin Cup $6,000 for marketing its base area location from November to April.
