Nine petitions pulled for council election

Monday is final day

While no one has returned a signed and valid petition for the Crested Butte Town Council election, nine people have stopped by the clerk’s office to take a packet.

Those interested in running for one of the town’s glamour positions have until Monday, August 26 to file a completed petition.
The board has three council seats and the mayor’s position open this November and nine people have taken out petitions to seek one of those seats. The three open seats are currently held by Jim Schmidt, Roland Mason and John Wirsing.
No one has returned a completed petition to the town yet, so names of potential candidates are being withheld.
The election will be a county-coordinated, mail election with no polling place in Crested Butte on the November 5 election day. Voters may cast their ballots in person at the Blackstock Building in Gunnison.
