MCBPAC board selects architect

Local firms to consult

With the $17 million in pledged donations needed to move forward with construction, The Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center board of directors secured the Houston-based architecture and design firm Studio Red Architects.

Sunlit Architecture and engineers from SGM will work with Studio Red on the design of what’s being billed as a world-class performing arts venue and a major expansion to provide a local perspective, town manager Joe Fitzpatrick said.
“[SGM has] done all kinds of work in the base area,” he said. “So they’re real familiar with soils and whose property is where.”
For technical expertise, the architects from Studio Red will bring along Boulder-based acoustician Robert Mahoney Associates and Chapel Hill N.C.-based Theater Consultants Collaborative for theater planning.
Studio Red has designed many performance venues and theaters throughout Texas and the U.S. and even designed The Disney Institute and an attraction at Universal Studios in Orlando.
“We’re trying to get some conceptual drawings this summer and hope to have some serious pieces of paper by this fall,” Fitzpatrick said.
